There are so many options for clothes out there. Fashion designers are making clothing of all shapes and sizes. If you have the money and the desire, you can wear next to nothing or you can layer to your heart's desire. What should you be wearing? What should you NOT be wearing? Let's take a look at some examples of great clothing that shouldn't make guys stare at your chest, legs, thighs, butts, etc. They might think you look pretty, though! Let's also take a look at some of the clothes that you shouldn't be wearing.

Christian clothing choices:

1. One piece swimsuits that fit: Notice that I added "that fit". Just because you are wearing a one piece swimsuit doesn't make it appropriate. It also needs to fit properly. If it is too loose, when you bend over, people can see parts of you that they shouldn't see. If it is too tight, people will be able to see parts of you that they shouldn't see.

2. A dark shirt and shorts over any type of swimsuit: This clothing choice will allow you to be free to swim and play in the water, but to be covered up. If you wear this when you go to the beach or to the local pool, I assure you that you will be more comfortable with yourself and guys will not be staring at places they shouldn't.

3. Long shorts/capris: One of the many complaints that I see is that guys like to stare at girls' legs or thighs. The best way to combat this is to cover up those areas. Long shorts and capris do a good job of covering those parts up and they are very cute and inexpensive.

4. Crew neck shirts, t-shirts, and hoodies: The biggest complaint that I see from Christian girls (and some non Christian girls, as well) are that guys tend to stare at their chests. The BEST way to fight this is to wear something that doesn't tempt them to look there. Crew neck shirts (see picture above) are shirts that don't come down very low. They are also very comfortable and fairly inexpensive. T-shirts are very similar to crew neck shirts, but they usually have fun graphics or sayings on them and they are very inexpensive. Hoodies are very popular for both the Christian and non Christian crowds. They are usually very soft and comfortable, come with fun sayings or graphics, and can be inexpensive.

Clothing that Christian girls should stay away from:

1. Bikinis: Wearing a bikini is just like walking around in your underwear. Guys get a good look at nearly any part of your body when you wear these. Yes, they can be cute, but they are also a stumbling block for guys. Please don't go here. A much better alternative to bikinis are tankinis. They are two-piece bathing suits, but they cover a lot more skin that bikinis. So if you must go two-piece, wear a tankini.

2. V-neck shirts: A v-neck shirt is like an arrow pointing to your chest. Guys are automatically drawn to look at that area, because it seems like you are advertising it when you wear these shirts. If you really want to wear a v-neck shirt, wear a nice tank top underneath it.

3. Tight pants: Tight pants cause guys to lust because they show parts of you that guys shouldn't see. Try going up one or two sizes on your jeans.

Are there any other suggestions of good clothing choices that you can think of?

One suggestion I have is to look at this from a guy's perspective. The less you wear (shorter shorts, skimpier bathing suits, low cut shirts), the MORE a guy is wondering what is underneath. Take a bikini for example (I'm sure you don't wear one, but this is a good example).

A Christian (or even non-Christian guy) sees you in a bikini, it reminds him of underwear, and suddenly, he's thinking about what's UNDERNEATH your bikini. Guys can and will do that with just about ANY type of clothing, but when we're wearing stuff like bikinis, v neck shirts, short shorts, tight pants, etc, WE are causing them temptation and that's NOT FAIR to our brothers in Christ.

Yes I get this and I do agree with you

From talking to my boyfriend about all of this, I've realized that really all it takes to get a guy going is seeing skin where it isn't normally seen...such as upper legs, stomach, lower back, and a lot of other places. Since it isn't normally seen, it leads their minds down a long path to sin.

No, I didn't say that. I am saying that we just need to be careful what we wear. I don't think that wearing shorts is sinful, but wearing shorts that are TOO short is....

How about wearing shorts with words across the b*** area?

I don't think that's very modest. It causes guys to look there...I also don't agree with wearing shirts with glittery graphics or words across the chest area for this reason as well. A t-shirt with an overall graphic (fills at least 1/4 of the shirt) is usually okay.

I figured so...just tryna to ask questions that most might be scared to ask or so. But yes I totally agree with that...our body is a temple of God and not a place where guys should be looking at and thinking bad thoughts about. Now you can't just look terrible and hope that no guys will look at you because for some guys, even if you are wearing a baggy shirt or a super long skirt, they will still look at you in a creepy way. God doesn't ask us to walk around looking unpleasant but to look modest and dress so that what we where will not make the poor feel bad (for not having as good clothes) or for the rich to shun you. Understood?

yeah my parents wouldn't either but at the same time they give me that choice and I decide NOT to expose myself. i'm thankful for that sort of direction from my parents

I know this is old but I have to say something about the layering. I live in the south it gets very humid down here. Except if your wearing gauzy material then I understand about the layering. Don't get me wrong modesty is very important so here is some tips when your trying on cloths.
These are simple tests you can do in the fitting room in front of the mirror.

The Saran Wrap Check:When your trying on a a skirt with lighter material stand in front of the mirror with your feet slightly appart. Can you see the outline of your legs.
With shirts of the same material stand under the best light possible and Do you see your Undergarments.

The Hallelujah Check: Stand in front of the mirror and raise your hands high like you are saying Hallelujah. Can you see your belly button?

The Pick Check: When trying on a skirt or shorts, turn your side to the mirror and crouch down like you are picking up something. Check your reflection is to much leg showing?

The Valley Check: When trying on shirts stand in the mirror and bend forward until your body is at a 45 degree angle Look at the mirror. Can you See your Cleavage?

The Plumber Check: When trying on anything for the lower half of the body turn your backside to the mirror and sit. Is your well you probably get this one.

The Slide Check: When trying on a skirt or shorts, find somewhere to have a seat. How far up your legs does the material slide?

The Ballerina Check: You may need someone else to help you with this one. Twirl around for a few seconds How much does the skirt rise, revealing whats underneath?
