So I was reading my devotional earlier, and it was talking about how the human race needs laws. God knew that from the time he gave Adam and Eve the law of "Do not eat from this tree." We need our limits. It was talking about how a lot of the rules in the Bible, aside from the 10 Commandments, can seem excessive in the world today. Then it went on to say "Jesus came not to break the law or even free us from the law. Instead, he came to fulfill the law so we wouldn't have to be shackled by its weight." I'm confused about what its trying to say. Does that mean that since Jesus came, we no longer have to follow the Bible's "extra" laws? If so, what determines an "extra" law from an "important" law?

'"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."'

What do you mean by "extra laws"?

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight,O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Laws that were meant specifically meant for people back then, and no longer make any sense to follow now.

'"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."'

It isn't saying that we don't have to follow those laws anymore. It is more likely saying that following those laws aren't necessary for salvation anymore. I'm not totally sure what laws you are talking about, but as far as the Sacrificial laws in Leviticus, Jesus eliminated those because He is the ultimate sacrifice. We no longer need to sacrifice things for our sins.

Hope that helps!

yeahhhhhh. That's it. It had mentioned Leviticus earlier in the lesson. Thanks for the insight!
