Be truthful. How often do you read the Bible? Your name will NOT be tied to the results so please just vote. Thanks!

I admit, I voted for the "Only when at church, youth, etc." I really don't read the Bible enough...and I'm even a Sunday School teacher! I know that I should fellowship with God more and learn from His Word, but I just get so caught up in everything else I do.

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm like that sometimes. But I have this teen devotional that helps me to read the Bible at least once a day if not all the time...I admit the Bible can be boring sometimes...

Sometimes the Bible is boring, but other times, it opens up a whole new way of thinking. I really like reading the Bible, but I just get so busy and distracted. I think I am going to try to find a good devotional to read. Maybe I'll post up here a good Bible reading schedule or mini-devotionals.

What version do you read? I'm guessing KJV. If so, I can help you understand it better because I'm assuming that you have to read that version and cannot choose your own. I started reading KJV right after I became a Christian and it was confusing, but I figured out a few things to make it a little easier to understand. Just let me know.

If the old english confuses you, try reading Eugene Peterson's "The Message". It's an awesome modern translation of the bible, and I absolutely love it. It's less boring, but still completely in touch with the message God was trying to get across to us.

As far as a devo, it's not technically a devotional, and it's not directly related to the bible (although you could find bible passages to fit all the topics in the book), Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller is an absolutely amazing read. It's one of the few books in which I agree completely with almost everything I read. I feel like I'm reading my own journal when he expresses his thoughts and feelings about Christianity. Idk, I think you guys would like it. I highly recommend it!

Um, I think that she reads King James because she has to so giving her an alternative isn't really going to help her. Right, Kiersten? I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying that it probably won't help.

Also, I wouldn't really recommend The Message for two reasons:
1. Eugene Peterson put his name in the byline...He didn't write the Bible, he just translated it.

2. The Message isn't really that close to the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. It is a thought-for-thought translation, which means that he looked at a passage and summarized it. Summaries don't help you figure out what God is actually saying.

I am NOT an expert on this and don't be upset with me for disagreeing (sp?). If you CAN get and do WANT a different version to read that's a bit easier and still really close to the original, try New King James or Contemporary English.

About Blue Like Jazz, I've heard a lot of great things about it! I have been wanting to read it for awhile now.

You're welcome. My boyfriend did his senior research paper over Bible translations and I learned almost as much as he did...b/c I had to read his paper about 50 bazillion times!

i used to read my Bible every day, but nowadays its more a 2 or 3 times a week thing. i have kinda gotten.... not as motivated.
which i feel really bad about. but i'm trying to get back into it. i just don't know what exactly to do with it i guess. i'm not much of a "between the lines" thinker, so it's hard to read things like the Bible and get the point people were trying to make. bleh. i'm trying though.

You should try getting a devotional. Usually, they have to read a verse, passage, or chapter(s) of the Bible and help you both understand the scrïpture and apply it to your life. They really do help.

I try to read my Bible before bed. Sometimes I forget, or am so tired I can barely get my pjs on.

"The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life - only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accourd. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again." John 10:17-18
