Well, I had to do a historical accuracy paper for global, and decided to watch the movie Munich and compare real history to Hollywood's historical representation. It was really deep and gruesome, but it was good overall.

It's about an Israeli counter-terrorist team against the PLO members that killed Israeli athletes during the 1972 summer olympics. It really saddens me to see this kind of stuff happen and know that it's happening right now in this country and in others. People are so hateful...

I've never seen the movie and I'm not familiar with what happened. Was it a genocide? (widespread killing of people just because of where they are from)

It's not really genocide, but you know how there's been tension between the Israelis and Palestinians the past few decades? If not, there's basically been a lot of hostility - pretty much an ongoing war between them over land, because each claims that the land (in and surrounding Israel) has holy and historical value. Basically the movie is a portrayal of what happened in the 1972 Olympics (held in Munich, Germany). 8 Palestinian men took 9 Israeli athletes hostage, and were demanding the release of 200 some odd Palestinian prisoners. They ended up killing all 9 athletes.

The movie focuses on what happens after that. Golda Meir (the prime minister of Israel at the time) sends a group of men out to eliminate all the members of Black September, the Palestinian Organization that planned the Munich Massacre. These men aren't allowed any contact with the Israeli government, so that the roots of the attacks aren't traced back to Israel.

So it's not technically genocide, because there wasn't an attempt to decimate a whole race, but there was a lot of bloodshed and revenge, all over holy land. It's quite repulsive that people actually believe that they're doing this stuff in the name of God. Problems become political, and no one thinks twice about their spirituality anymore.

Wow. That sounds very intense. My boyfriend would probably be very interested in this movie.
